Oil, graphite; 56” x 67”

The two flamingos picture grew out of plastic lawn figures that I walked past multiple times each day on my property. The figures and color palette express a certain kind of innocent exuberance that I wanted to capture. Expanding on the influence of the "simple" figure and ground paintings of Giorgio Morandi, the intertwining of positive and negative space provided a support structure to experiment with expressive brush, knife and graphite work.
